I am reflecting on President Abbas recent
statement following the UN's decision to reject the recognition of Jerusalem by
the US. President Abbas
reiterated he will not accept US involvement in the Israeli and Palestinian
peace process. At first it would appear that peace is doubtful. However, Abbas
may have simply (perhaps really) disqualified himself from the peace process.
What if peace and justice grows up
from within Jerusalem and Israel? What
if the nations that surround Israel and Palestine are not really favorable toward
peace in the Middle East? It is like the seed of an oak tree planted
in the ground. The nations surrounding Israel are like the earth. The
seed has two halves surrounded by the ground around them. Sensing
pressure, new life will emerge like a tender shoot that will arise anew. May peace arise with help from heaven above!
