Pope
Francis met today with Jordan’s King Abdullah II at the Vatican. They discussed the “peace and stability” of
the Middle East, the importance of Jerusalem, and the sovereignty of the Hashemite
Kingdom of Jordon for the protection of the Holy Places. There was a renewed commitment “to encourage
negotiations among the interested parties, as well as promoting inter-religious
dialogue.” The conversation included the importance of Christians
remaining in the Middle East and the contribution that Christians, “bring to
the societies of the region, of which they are an integral part.”
