July 18, 2017 -- Zuhri-Lake-Kramer: Two Very Different Views

A spokesperson for Hamas, Sami Abu Zuhri, is reported to have said that the attacks last Friday on the Temple Mount were “a natural response to Israeli terrorism and their defilement of the al-Aksa mosque."

Eli Lake argues that this cannot be taken seriously when the leaders of Hamas accuse Israel of defiling the holy site, while they praise the gunmen who ran to the site during their attack.

Martin Kramer stated that, "the usual Islamist claim” is that, “the danger to the mosque and the shrine is from Jews….[However here] there was an actual conspiracy to smuggle weapons into this holy place and Hamas does not condemn it, they praise it. Who poses the greater danger to Al Aqsa?"  Lake concludes that the greatest danger to Islam’s holy site these days is “the Palestinian fanatics who claim to be fighting for its reclamation.”
