July 19, 2017 -- On the Shooting of the Two Israeli-Druze Officers

Scene of the terror attack at Lions Gate (Magen David Adom)
The two Israeli-Druze police officers that were killed last Friday were Arabs.  The Druse is a unique Arabic people in Israel who interpret Judaism, Christianity, and Islam in their own distinctive way.  They stress simple faith in God, rather than ritual and ceremony.   They combine their religious thought with Greek philosophy and Hindu ideas.  They resisted Arab nationalism in 1948, but serve in the IDF and in the Border Police.

It was reported that the two officers Hayil Satawi and Kamil Shanaan were critically wounded near the Lions Gate, after the three Israeli-Arabs were coming from the Temple Mount after prayers.  After opening fire, the three trampled back to the Temple Mount where they were killed.   The two officers were transferred to Hadassah Hospital on Mount Scopus were they were declared dead after arrival.   A third officer was slightly wounded, but survived the attack.
